TIPS
We recommend taking as much time as you can when visiting this area and to keep in mind that the National Park is over 100 kilometres north of Cairns and takes about 2 1/2 hours to drive there.
If you are driving there yourself we recommend stopping in at Port Douglas and Mossman Gorge on the way there and even enjoying a cruise on the Daintree River looking for crocodiles, if you get time.
There are 3 Stores in the Daintree National Park, Masons General store which sells basic supplies, alchohol and has the Myall Creek Takeaway, Rainforest Camp which also sells fuel and the IGA next to PK’s Jungle Village.
There is no mains electricity from about 1 kilometre north of the Daintree River. Please keep this in mind when packing and perhaps keep that hair dryer at home!!
There is not very good mobile phone reception north of the Daintree River.
There are Cash Machines in Cow Bay, Diwan and Cape Tribulation.
There is a medical centre open in Cow Bay from Monday to Friday for limited hours.
The ferry runs 365 days per year and starts at 6am and closes at midnight. You don’t have to book the ferry, its takes about 5 minutes to cross the Daintree River, costs about $20 return and also can be quite congested around 10am and 3pm during late May to last November.
There is no swimming in the ocean in the Summer months which is usually around late Auguest/early Septmember.
